Owners like Ballard and Wirtz sucked all the life and money out of the players.
the players don't make as much moolah as in other sports.
yes the tv coverage is absolutely horrid.

You are SOOOOO right! It is far more enjoyable than football.. baseball... whatever --- but they say hockey is a sport better watched LIVED.
Still- I do watch plenty of games during the season on television and I never have a problem watching it.
I think as time goes on ~ and tv's keep getting better ~ more people will be tuning in to watch hockey.
There's hope yet! ;o)

that just in the U.S cause they aren't the best at it, if they where then Hockey would be #1 in the U.S. football (soccer) is #1 in the world as most popular sport, hockey is #2 in the world. hockey is being played in places you wouldn't imagine like Egypt, India and Pakistan yes i mean ice hockey. American football, baseball and basketball don't even come close to football(soccer) and hockey even sports like Rugby, Golf, Tennis are bigger then all American sports world wide. American football and baseball are very slow sports and it will never really catch on in Europe and basketball is played a little more in Europe but it has no defense. can you see football(soccer) and hockey are low scoring games and the world love these games. American football, baseball and basketball are all high scoring games and that's what the Americans like, but that's not what the world likes.

You mean "Yankee Professional Wrestling?"
It's professional wrestling on a slab of ice... I mean do you really honestly believe the fighting in that sport is for real? It's like some promoter decides that the crowd is now bored with watching a little black puck move back and forth so they cue two guys to start clubbing each other... I mean .... what's the point? -- and then they only get a small amount of time in a penalty box!
No other legitimate sport tolerates fighting at all! In football, baseball and soccer, you're immediately ejected from the game and heavily fined (and rightfully so). Those are real sports. Till hockey follows suit, it's just professional wrestling on ice.

The Public Relations department needs some serious help. The only time it gets national coverage in the US is when there is a hit like the Bertuzzi hit or a major fight.

It isn't exactly T.V. friendly. The sponsors can't call a time out for a commercial. It's played in three periods. As opposed to nine innings. The plays develop way too fast for most people to keep up with.

It's too fast for the fat Americans. If there isn't stoppage of play every 34 seconds Americana's get confused. Never mind the fact that Americans need to be peppered with commercials every 2 minutes or they will have to think for themselves.

because there aren't as many times to stop for commercials as in baseball and it isn't as well known throughout the world because you need ice. For soccer you only need something to kick.
