My wife had an hysterectomy done about 3 years ago, she is 48 years old, one ovary was removed also. No harmones were given as the doctor said one ovary is enough to provide all the estrogens. Recently she has been waking up with headache. Upon checking we found that the diastolic level is btween 90 and 105 in the morning, it goes down to normal of 85 to 90 later in the day after some household activity.

That is very high - she needs BP medicine - this could cause a stroke or heart attack. She may have a blockage in her areteries or any number of things could be wrong. Take her to the Dr as soon as possible!

A diastolic pressure of 85 or 90 is not normal. It is considered prehypertension but because it is so dangerously high in the mornings, I would be very concerned. 80 is the high end of normal so hers is still high-very high. It does not go down to normal at all - and in fact I would just be concerned with her AM BP rate even if it did go down during the day. If she is at rest and just waking up with that high of a blood pressure reading - that is very concerning. It should be lower at rest just like pulse.

I don't know that this has anything to do with the hysterectomy - it cold be a sign of something else. If she is on any medications it could also be a side effect. These are things that a doctor would need to tell you.

See this info for normal blood pressure ranges:

The higher (systolic) number represents the pressure while the heart contracts to pump blood to the body.
The lower (diastolic) number represents the pressure when the heart relaxes between beats.
The systolic pressure is always stated first and the diastolic pressure second. For example: 118/76 (118 over 76); systolic = 118, diastolic = 76.

Blood pressure below 120 over 80 mmHg (millimeters of mercury) is considered optimal for adults. A systolic pressure of 120 to 139 mmHg or a diastolic pressure of 80 to 89 mmHg is considered "prehypertension" and needs to be watched carefully. A blood pressure reading of 140 over 90 or higher is considered elevated (high).

Please do not listen to the other answer that says this is not of concern. It is. The info I gave you above is directly from the American Heart Association web site- so please listen to them - they would know and take her to the doctor to see what the problem is or to get medication - it is not worth taking a chance. I am not sure what her systolic is but her diastolic is way too high in the morning and even in the day - too high.

Anything like 180 over 150 is bad. Then you need to go to the ER. 120/100 is ok. Don' t sweat it but keep watching. Kitty
