I'm having one next week because of a suspected peptic ulcer. But the doctor doing it said the procedure will take no more than 2 and a half minutes. I've heard of it taking up to 20 minutes. Is this doctor not being thorough? Or maybe he doesn't expect to find anything?

Also, if something is found wont a biopsy be taken?

The procedure itself can take from 2 to 15 minutes...depending what is found. However, allow 2 hours from the time you get there until the time you depart. This covers the prep time (time spent waiting for scheduled procedure), the procedure itself and then recovery time.

The short time does not mean he is not being thorough. The procedure it not a long one to start with. If a biopsy needs to be done or any other treatment, it can take up to 15 minutes. (I'm an R.N.)
