i have a 1965 pontiac 389 motor and i want to put it in my 1981 firebird what do i have to change on the wiring???

Small block is small block. It will bolt up but you may have problems w/ sensors. An 81 wont have a lot to deal with so you may not have any problems. Just engine light. If you eliminate the computer alltogether it will work fine. I did this in an '87 Olds 442.

You'll probably have quite a few smog connectors that won't attach to the new engine. The 389 will also have a breaker points ignition - I'd recommend upgrading it to a standard HEI, which just requires one wire that gets power from the ignition in the Run and Start settings and turns off in any other position. With the HEI ignition, wiring up that motor will be simple - all it needs to run is two wires, power and ground for the ignition. Sensors ought to connect right up; if not, you can probably use the sensors from your current engine.
