If the number of sides of a convex polygon is n,

Then sum of Interior angles = 180(n-2) degrees; as (n-2) triangles can be formed in the interior whose angles,when summed, give sum of all interior angles of the polygon.

Hence, 180(n-2)=1260
Therefore, n=9

The general rule is, starting with a triangle, whose angles total 180 degrees, each side that you add increases the total by 180 degrees (4 sides, 360 degrees; 5 sides, 540 degrees; etc.).

So,

total of interior angles = (sides - 2) * 180

and

sides = (total of interior angles / 180) + 2
