In Sundays race, all the top finishers had to pit for a "splash" of gas. Yet after the race, this joker had enough fuel to make another lap; do spins; and rev the engine while riding the brakes...what gives?

Some drivers are very good at conserving their fuel when they need to. They know which tracks are common fuel guzzlers, because of the length of the track. It is a very risky strategy that may or may not payoff. Unfortunately for Sorenson it did not. He gambled with the chance that he might make it, but lost. As for what you label joking. It was definitely not a joke. Kahns team got lucky that Soerensons risk failed him, they won the race because of it. These guys are professionals there is a lot of money at stake. They dont taunt the losers, but they sure as heck celebrate their victorys. Every driver does a victory lap and usually a burnoff after winning a race. Unless special circumstances wont allow them to. Such as when Kyle Bushe won the race after his idiot brother got into all that trouble with the police. They decide it best not to publicize the event, witch meant no celebration for Kyle. Also Jimmy Johnson did no victory lap the day he won the race from with so many of his team and their family members were killed in a helicopter crash leaving the race.

he pitted for fuel.. hello, they arne't just like here let's put enough for 10 laps in.. they give them a few splashes to make it to the end of the race and possibly even a green/white checkered with some caution laps in.. so there is normally some extra fuel in there after the last 15 lap stop or something like that.. some drivers are able to conserve more fuel than originally estimated it all depends. but it's always safer to get the gas in someone like kasey's position than to be drifiting on the other side of the track with pit road no-where in sight on the last lap and watch 42 cars pass you by so that you can finish dead last b/c you took a fuel gamble..
sucked big time for ree sorenson, but they even said..we are going to win this or run out of fuel trying..unfortunately, it was the latter and kasey was the lucky winner of that one.

you can get quite a bit of fuel in a 3 second splash stop.. so trust me, there was no harm in him doing his victory. it was a momentious occasion for him.. drivers have blown engines, tires and whatnot doing their celebrations.. so running out of gas at that point in time was probably the furthest thing from the #9's mind..

well for one thing he had to stop also for gas. he also got two tires and that would have put the tank to about half. and on the extra lap he is not running as fast so you dont use as much fuel. and who cares if they run out of fuel when the race is over or you just won

They usually fill at the last caution or whenever they can.
Some races, they're told only certain stops for gas can be done on a certain lap.
He probably filled up within the last 10 laps or so due to a caution and didn't need to stop.

Kasey is very happy to win the race and nows he has a chance to make the chase. He pitted 15 to go and he had enough fuel to make it and do the spins.

The fine tuning of the engines make a difference. Some engine tuners do better than others. The each driver is different as to the way they drve and the line to make the best way to conserve gas.
