i still buy my cd's (call me old fashioned) but i like having the security that if i ever get in trouble with the law, my cd collection is okay. and i don't download simply for the reason that the only person to get that money is the place you download the song from. and i like to look at the pictures on the inside of the album and read the lyrics.

It depends on the CD. I love the obscure 80's and not all of the music that I love is readily available to download. I just purchased a CD by "The Church" for $1.99 because it is so obscure that I couldn't find all of the tracks online. I have CDs that I bought in 85 that are in perfect condition. I still love the feel of a new CD in my hands, you don't get that feeling when you download. You can't replace flipping through the "bins" with online shopping.

Having read a few of the statements that followed mine I have to say something. The future is downloaded music. CD's are going the way of the VHS tape and will be obsolete in the next 5 - 10 years. If I download new music I pay for it. As for older music that is hard to find in the stores or at online venues then I will burn them from friends or download them from other users for free. Don't worry, the musicians, record companies, producers, radio stations and whoever else get's a piece of the pie will survive in the new future of online music.

I still buy CD's, though I also download some songs as well. BUT, I download songs to see if I like the artist. If I do, I buy the CD, and delete the songs from off my computer. If I don't, I still delete them. And I don't allow others to upload from me.
It's my opinion that ONLY burning CD's is the same as stealing. I'm no thief.

Is not the matter of wasting the money, is for the appreciation of the musical talents and effort of the artist that YOU shown your support too, cause at the end of the day, all music awards that you see in your idiot box, comes from NOT just from the cheap downloads, it depends majorities from the record sales THAT comes from people who buy their work.
From there, the artist that won the awards not only have their appreciation on their work BUT the SUSTAINABILITY of their name in the industry, AND helps them to be kept by their record labels.
IF everyone who thinks like you, we will soon face a major downfall of the music industry, cause nobody will buy their records, and without those money , these artist will not afford to pay for the recording facilities, the production of music videos, and the promotion activities for them.

So, ' Mr.SMART ' if you think what you're doing here makes big deal to your pocket, think again!

if you don't buy cds and burn them for free...you are actually stealing .... imaging that nobody buys cd anymore, what will happened ?? the recording company will no make money...if they will not make money, they won't be able to produce songs, if they won't be producing songs, then the singers won't have money....if the singers don't have money, they will be working at mcdonalds flipping burgers instead of writing and performing songs ...then there will be no more music in this world. !! do you want that to happen ?? if yes, you will be listening to crickets chirping very soon.....

People who appreciate the music that artists make. Buy it if you want to support your favorite artist. I'm not against free music, but I think if you really enjoy the music you download or borrow then buy a copy. Unless you're a poor. Poor like you only eat ramen and pb sandwhiches because otherwise you'd be sleeping under a bridge poor.
