What if we celebrated them both equally? Had parties for both.

When it's my turn to go, please make your posts in here joyous.

Well, that is what the hispanic culture does. They celebrate deaths, and have parties at funerals as well as Dia de Los Muertos, "Day of the Dead." I think also, that these views of these processes, are westernized and tend to be representative of the Christian belief. There are many other religions that believe in life after death, reincarnation, etc. I think it depends on your belief system, and how you grew up.

Because death is the unknown. Feasting used to
be the party. Though they said it was to feed those
who traveled from afar. Too many fast food places
along the way for that to be a reason now.

We think death is bad cause we don't "see " the person again. And we are not sure about what death is. Birth can be seen and has an explanation so we think Yeah, this is good.

the irish celebrate death with raucous wakes... i think that would be cool instead of sitting around with a long face and grieving. i mean, a person should grieve in their own way, but i want a party thrown for me when i check out...

Yes, very nice question. But as you know, we don't like our loved ones to pass. Right? But still we believe that they will be in God's paradise. So, we can feel good about that. and of course, we feel happy for every new life borne in this world.

For sure death is something that people don't like to happened coz everyone has a lov to hi/her relatives but there is no way we can escape from it coz what God says Yes no one can say no.
It is hard to believe that someone you really loved has left you never ever to see him/her again. it hurts you know.

I have always told my family to throw a party win I die. I don't want sadness, just celebrate my life or the end of it, depending on how you felt about me....:)

Because we are social and selfish. Birth brings people into our existence so we like it while death takes people away.

It's a misconception. We are born on Earth to pay for our sins and death is liberation.
