Steve Irwin – the Australian TV adventurer best known as the "Crocodile Hunter" – has been killed by a stingray. This guy was perceived to be beyond "insane" and "magically invincible" at the same time!

I guess it's sadly apparent now, that perception is "NOT" always reality, nevertheless his zany- genius will be sorely missed..he was indeed one of a kind!

The carrying his newborn under his arm while dangling a piece of raw meat in front of a ravenous beast set the Media ablaze and questions about his menrtal stability soared! But ... he contiued on until today.

Insane or magically invincible, he was exceptional, I wish he could come back! I have only seen him in the media, but my heart aches for the hero he was!

What a sad day in history. The loss of such a great wildlife icon. He showed such compassion and excitement for the animals and truly loved working them. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

One lesson that should be learned from this tragedy to never get too close to the animals. A beast is still a beast. That excludes none. Although they say it is rare that anyone would die from a stingray attack, this was one of those exceptions. That was a freak accident just as it could have been with the incident about the croc and Irwin's infant.

With all that said, Let us reflect on the knowledge he has brought to us about those animals and the joy that came from watching him enjoy his experiences with them.

It's so sad--I can't believe the animal that finally took him down (after all his death defying encounters) was a stingray! I love rays and it's been my dream to visit Stingray City in the Caymans... Now it's not gonna happen...

Irwin led a very full life though--he probably crammed more living into his shortened life than most people who reach old age.

As an Australian who found him incredibly annoying, I can say that I never wanted him to die - and I send my deepest sympathy to his wife and children - but he was so annoying!

Rest In Peace Steve Irwin

P.S.
He died after being stung through the heart by the barb of a stingray and was unable to be revived.

it was such a tradgedy and freak accident, stingrays are usually harmless, and if stung it is painful, but not deadly,if you get help right away.he was filming a new show he was going to be doing with his daughter,he was swiming above a stingray, and the barb from the tail pierced his heart,he pulled it out and then he was gone,i feel so bad for his wife and 2 small kids,he will be missed so much, but he died doing what he loved, and he'll be remembered as a wildlife warrior ,and his favorites, crikey, and crocs rule

No one could replace him. He was meant to do what he did. Just like Micheal Jordon and basketball, Tiger Woods and golf, and Steve with animals. His death is a very sad tragedy. We've all learned so much from him!

i will never forget the image of steve irwin talking to the camera while sharks were in a feeding frenzy all around him while he stood in the water...the guy was a crazy kook but he was fascinating, funny and very entertaining...i kind of felt one day his luck would run out the way he took risks dealing with wildlife but i would never have guessed it would take a stingray to be the culprit....my condolences to his friends and family....he was one of a kind and his legacy will continue as his shows run on animal planet

Yes, I was shocked when I turned on the TV this morning. Well, can't say I was "shocked", because what he did was a dangerous profession for obvious reasons, but it is still very sad. He had a great heart and personality. He loved his family, that's for sure. And he loved teaching people about animals and wildlife conversation.

RIP, Steve

I think this man deserves some respect now that he's unfortunatley passed on. Some people are being really spitful about it (not necessarily in answer to this particular question) and I think it's awful! Even if you don't like someone, there's still the family to consider. Steve had two beautiful kids who are very young and I really feel for them and, of course, his wife. R.I.P Steve xXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXx

Reminds me of the bear guy up in Alaska. Can't think of his name but movie was made about him.

I like that these guys lived fearlessly. I don't think death's something to fear.

Death isn't the opposite of life. Birth is the opposite of death.

It's all life.

Life is an adventure. Enjoy the ride.
