if all nascar offered was left turns i wouldn't be so hooked. but there is so much more to this sport. there is angle of the banking, degree of turns width of track, texture of track, temperature of track, tire pressure, track and wedge adjustments, spring rubber adjustments, fuel mileage, pit stops(time and adjustments working or not), there are the personality conflicts to watch for, the dirty dogs to watch for whatever *poop* they are gonna pull. each track has its own characteristics so anyone that has taken any time to learn anything about the sport realizes that left turns don't even scratch the surface of the complexity of this sport. i sure hope you actually read the answers to your question and give nascar a chance, you would not be dissappointed.

What is wrong is the closed minds that do not think motor sports are sports. Then there are people that think sports are what the olympics are. Then the stick and ball sports(football, baseball ect). so each person thinks their ideas are the best.
I have followed stockcar racing since 1960 and I watch these as a way to watch man vs machine the same as when I watch a rodeo with man vs animal.

it is the thrill of watching the last 10 laps of the race. All the close calls they have on the track and most of all it is the fun of watching the stock car racing 43 other cars to see who is better at each track. It isn't just nascar, what about cascar, arca series. I like NHRA too i just like speed.

...As opposed to watching 10 (roundball), 18 (baseball) or 22 (football) guys do their thing and then whine and cry about how they don't make enough millions each year or strut in front of the camera saying "Look at what a stud I am; women, throw yourself at my feet!" To each his own.
Note to Pieman- if all 43 cars ran all laps in all 36 races and all were 500 miles long, they would burn about 258,000 gallons of fuel, enough to take 4.5 jetliners one time across the country.

The lovve of fast cars, speed, adreniline. The bumping and grinding, pushing and shoving. The stratagies, the crashes. The checkered flag and the victories. The roar of the motors, the smoke in their eyes. The burn offs, the screeching tires, and the other fans just like themselves.

the only thing 'wrong' with us NASCAR nuts is that we are open minded and we refuse to let ourselves be brainwahed by the stick and ball sports guys on ESPN. the lure of NASCAR is the endless strategy, the speed, and the drama of human competition. not to mention the drivers, unlike the competitors in other sports, acually take their responsibility as role models seriously. they don't traffic cocaine, beat the sh*t out of their wives, or go on high speed chases with the cops. if you acually opened your mind and took the time to WATCH a NASCAR race, you would see what's so great about it. take last nights race for example. rookie reed sorenson tried to stretch his fuel milage and not make a final pit stop like all the other leaders did with about 10 laps to go. it would have been the first win of his young career and the first win for target(a long time loyal NASCAR sponser). but ooohhh, with less than 2 laps to go he runs out of gas, and kasey kahne, who is fighting and clawing for the 10th and final spot in the chase(with only richmond next week to go), passes him and takes the checkered flag. now THAT'S drama.

Nothing. Nothing wrong with liking NASCAR at all.
I'd rather watch the grass grow than watch F1!

It's all about strategy.
Also, a poll was done several months ago that said that fans not only support a particular driver, but the race team itself and sometimes a particular sponsor.
