Demun......no it isn't right. Cutting is not positive behavior for the "cutter"....I don't believe it would require a stay at mental hospital, but I do believe this person should seek psychiatric help and soon. I have read that this is a symptom of the individual trying to gain control in his/her life as they do not perceive that they have control over anything in their lives, hence the cutting allows the person to control bleeding/pain. Also the individual may have unbearable mental pain in their life that the cutting of skin may temporarily relive them of their mental pain. Saw it on talk show once.

No, and there is nothing wrong with thinking about death. I personally find it fascinating. It doesn't mean I want to die now.
Oh, and I used to cut myself. The person likely will outgrow it if they are a teen now, they are just looking for a way to deal. If the person is older they should probably go see a psychiatrist to learn how to face their problems. The teen will learn that this is the best way eventually, just give them some time.

If the person is only presenting with minor cutting and preoccupation with death then no. The key for suicide lethality is having a plan for suicide and the means to complete that plan. But as a catch all please see your local social worker, emergency room or shrink...

Yes. This is not normal. They need serious mental health treatment.
