I will say that I'm impressed with your typing skills, if you just jabbed your finger with a knife.

yes, ouch!!! it might have been a superficial wound that can't have stitches, meaning not deep enough... the bleeding may be from the position of the cut... some cuts bleed a lot, even when they are not deep into the tissue... you can always call the ER back and ask, but I am assuming if the doc didn't stitch it, it is for a reason, possibly scarring forming in that location is another reason... but the only other reason would be if it was over 12 hours later, but you said it was 3. Give them a call, it's not a crazy question to ask the nurse there who can ask the doc...

It probably wasn't necessary. With any type of cut or wound, if you stretch/agitate it, the would is going to re-open and start bleeding again. If you are a really concerned, you can actually use superglue to seal the cut (believe it or not, this is a great solution for when stitches are not available). Other than that, wrap and bandage the cut and then LEAVE IT ALONE.

YES, it sounds like it should have been sutured, especially if it keeps bleeding. If its right on the knuckle its going to keep opening and it will take along time to heal, not to mention infection.
It needs to have a splint on it at least. You have 10 hours before its to late to suture. If you don't have it sutured at least keep it
covered during the day with antibacterial ointment and its very important to keep it OPEN AT NIGHT. Clean it with peroxide everyday. If the knife was fairly new you should be OK without antibiotics. Watch for infection.
Take care

That happened to me only, I didn't go to the ER, get a finger brace, to keep it from moving, you'll be okay... the only thing is you'll most likely end up with a scar on your finger.

A stitch won't help. If you bend your finger it will pop out. It might help to get something to hold your finger really straight, like the splints they use for broken fingers.

Youd be amazed how bad you can cut yourself and not need stitches. My husband has cut himself so many times, and he does the same thing everytime. He wraps it real tight and it seals everytime. Hes had some bad ones, and I always tell him he needs stitches, but he disagrees. It works for him every damn time...lol
