The new NHL is much different than the old one. Players in the old NHL were not afraid to hit and really play well because penelties werent called for no reason as they are now. Now players get penelties for everything. I think that the new shootout is allright at times but the new penelty rules really ruin the game.

Let me put it this way, when it's possible to play the first seven minutes of a game with only one stoppage in play, I'd call that anything but boring. As for the "new" interference rules, THEY AREN'T NEW. They're just being enforced for the first time. And you can't really believe that the "new NHL" is more boring than the "left wing lock" or the various versions of it that were so popular in the 90's. I don't like all of the rule changes, but the end result works for me. Fast skating, sharp passing and if you want to goon it up you still can... just be prepared to be undressed by a guy who's actually got some skill.
If they'd just get rid of that stupid trapezoid... what were they trying to accomplish with THAT?

I long for the good old days. Guys like Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsey,
an era when even super stars would drop the gloves if they felt they were being targeted. The new rules are always to increase scoring. It sucks. BTW it's the same with American Football.
It seems like the NHL is falling into a trap of sorts. Every hockey fan, and player knows that Offense sells tickets. While that is true, defense wins championships. Let's get back to basics.

well i really miss the good old days when there was real fire in the players eyes. back in the day you had more super stars per team and the scoring was high, and then the 90's came with new teams so less super stars per team and then the scoring dropped. yes the goalie equipment started to get bigger but there was players that couldn't really keep up with the good ones, and then the clutching and grabbing started and really slowed the game down. if we could take out maybe 6 to 9 teams out of the NHL which will not happened, but there would be more super stars on a team and the scoring will go back up. we need to stop changing all the rules cause its making the game look bad, and i love hockey.
teams i would take out first 6 would be: Florida, Tampa Bay, Nashville, Anaheim, San Jose and Carolina. i would keep Los Angeles just cause there part of the next 6 that came in the league to bring it up to 12 teams. then the next 3 teams i would remove from the NHL to bring it down to 21 teams like in the 80's would be Columbus, Phoenix and Dallas. and i would try to put 2 new teams in Canada cause it would work with the new salary cap, Winnipeg Jets and the Quebec Nordiques.
GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!

The Shootout is great, I love that there are no longer ties. The refs are calling way to many penaltys, The biggest issue I had last year with the refs were quick whistles at the net. Wings @ Preds last season I was 10 rows from the glass Ref standing to the front left of me. I never lost sight of the puck, Quick whistle cost a point which we lost in a shootout.

As a Flyers fan, I don't like the wimpier version of the NHL. I agree with the late Fred Shero in that the NHL wants the Ice Capades. A real turn-off are the increased penalty calls and the marginality of them.

I like the lack of whistles. I also like how weaker teams have a chance to win as well..I'm not big on the calls they make now, since the refs are so touchy, but i think it was a decent change..

Hey- I don't think it's grown boring myself.... but then, I love hockey!
I kinda like the shoot-out because I like having a winner every game instead of a tie. ;0)
