The best thing you can do is to install the iTunes software, otherwise it will not be recognized by that computer. I am having some similar problems myself at this present time. It is really frustrating, but I just download the Free iPod Book v 2.2, it will tell you pretty much anything you want to know about optimizing the use of your iPod to its fullest capabilities. Good Luck!

Two things could be happening.

1) The USB port isn't 2.0, which I doubt because you've probably charge the iPod on it before.
2) The Rechargeable battery in it need to be replaced by Apple, this is more likely as it is their number one customer complaint of the iPod. ie the battery dies too young...sniff sniff...

There are two different USB cables. One can charge and the other cannot. Sounds like you have the non-charging kind.

there is a few thing incorrect with you usb port on your ipod.. ( the ingredient you plug the charger as a lot as) more effective then likly there is not any longer some thing you're waiting to do except you'll locate someone who can fix it for you.

well first of all i don't know how you put in songs to your iPod without downloading iTunes, so that's my 1st suggestion to do is download iTunes and from there your iPod will connect with it and you'll see it charging i'm pretty sure it'll work.
