Turtles have no idea what glass is and often try to escape through glass walls. Many experienced keepers use opaque-sided tanks for this reason- not as pretty but less stressful to the turtles.

Just FYI- they do the same thing with mesh or fencing with gaps- they seem to figure if they can get their head through, they can fit and will try for hours at a time, often hurting themselves in the process.

Tape something over the aquarium side where she does it and see if it stops. One glitch is that it can quickly become a learned behavior and she'll keep it up and hurt herself.

my turtle does that all the time. he's 4 years old and has always done that. he usually does it when i come into the room. i think he gets excited! or when i am feeding him. i think a lot of the time they forget that the glass is there! good luck with your turtle. i love mine!

Maybe they are trying to escape If I were in a cage 24/7 I sure as hell wouldn't want to stay there.
