I'm sad not only for him, but for what he represented. He taught the world that being a good science man could be funny.

its really tragic.. imagine being killed by a simple stingray, after spending all those years playing with the most aggressive reptile on the planet.. i loved watching his shows.. the way he carried it out & his accent.. he had his whole family in his croc business.. its very sad he lost his life at such a young age.. may his sould rest in peace.
for those of u who havent heard it yet.. here is a piece of the news:-
Steve Irwin, the Australian television personality and environmentalist known as the Crocodile Hunter, was killed Monday by a stingray barb during a diving expedition, media reports said.
Irwin, 44, was filming an underwater documentary on the Great Barrier Reef in northeastern Queensland state when the accident occurred, The Daily Telegraph, a Sydney newspaper, reported on its Web site.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation said Irwin was diving near Low Isles, about 2,100 kilometers north of Brisbane when the incident happened.
A helicopter carrying paramedics flew to the island, but he died from a stingray barb to the heart, ABC reported on its Web site.
Telephone calls to Australia Zoo, Irwin's zoo in southern Queensland, were not immediately answered.
Irwin is famous for his enthusiasm for wildlife and his catchcry "Crikey!" in his television program, Crocodile Hunter, which was first broadcast in Australia in 1992 and has been broadcast around the world on the Discovery channel.
He made a feature film, and developed the Australia Zoo as a tourist attraction.

I am not surprised at all, the way he loved to play with and piss of dangerous animals. RIP, yes, and condolences to his family.
Every time I saw him pissing off snakes, I'd be like, "Pendejo, it's gonna bite you, watch." I couldn't stand him, he was annoying. Crikey!
As for him, he's doing just fine now, no pain, all is good. He passed away doing what he loved to do, what better way to go? I feel badly for his family though, because he was so young (44), and his daughter is little without a daddy now. I hope they will be fine.

I am still in shock after finding out. I can't believe it, he was an amazing, crazy, but definitely an amazing guy. I was a huge fan, I will truly miss him. He at least died doing what he loved best though, unfortunately way to young. Very sad!!!!!!

I've been saying that I would believe it when I saw it on the news myself. I clicked on the link someone provided before me.
I'm stunned !!! He was killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest.
I don't even know what to say!
Very sad!
God bless him, and be with his family.
