I'd rather not be like all the single mom's i've heard of and go for child support, i'm financially struggling to take care of my son and my self. why are all the assistance programs focused towards single moms? i've asked for help from his mom, she's broke...but if he's at her house for more than two days, i'm a bad dad for not giving her my last $5...is there any assistance out there, not just for women??? Like WIC, but more like DIC {Dads In Crisis}...

Depending on where you live, there are a ton of options. You can check your local yellow pages for places that offer assisted day care rates or free to those in a certain income bracket but make sure that they have the necessary paper work and all employees have their clearances [background checks].

You should qualify for food assistance and 'emergency cash' that gets added to your monthly food stamp allotment. This can be spent on what ever you want or need and most States will allow you to make cash withdrawals from ATM machines. Personally I have never used these programs but I have friends that have and most of them were very 'embarrassed' to ask for help. If it comes down to asking the question of … "Do I pay the electric bill or buy food" then embarrassment shouldn't be a factor.

Good luck!

Welcome to the real world dude! Everyday, we hear about discriminations against women. Now, what about single dads like us? All I can tell u is to do the simple steps. Cut down on ur personal expenses. I know it's dreadful. But this is our sacrifice for our kids. Hopefully, they will appreciate it when they grow up and take care of us in return when we are old. And try to increase your income. If a second job is not possible, then try to do little things from home. Opportunities are in abundance out there. I guess it's up to us to find our share and grab it. But never de despair. Life can't be that bad. Today we may be down the wheel, but there's also hope in tomorrow. Hang on there dude!

I'm not sure but the courts have had a lousy record when it comes to compensating men vs women. (getting the house in a divorce, abortion decisions, child support, etc) I don't know if such a thing is in place for single fathers, but I hope you find something, you deserve it.
