Depends on your age, experience, how many kids, what the cost of living is where you live, and if there are any other special circumstances. (like having to stay super late, if you clean up after the kids or just keep them safe, and if you are flexible with coming last minute and things like that)

I'd say between 6 and 10 dollars is average.

It really depends on who you babysit for. If the parents are fairly wealthy and generous, I would expect at least $10/hour. That is what I remember getting six or seven years ago from one family. But that was on the high end I think. It really does depend on who's paying, though. I would agree with the guess of $7 to $10 per hour. More than minimum wage in most cases just because parents are so thankful for sitters. But, don't expect too much more than minimum wage from parents that are just starting a family or who are struggling to get by.

per child or per hour?

I'd kinda feel it in my gut.

Usually the parents are generous, if they know their kids are tuff to keep. Depends on how hard you work, ya know? Start at $5. and above that , I would think.
