Because they worry about things like, how will they pay the rent or the utility bills, or buy food, or what happens if the car breaks down, or what if I get sick and can't afford to go to the doctor... lots of reasons.

Different people may value different things as being most important to them in this world. Wat we hold important will be determined by our values... and our values are actually determined by the books we have read, the experiences we have had, the people we met, the seminars we attended and the tapes that we listen to...
While money is one of the top 5 priority for most people. Not EVERYONE will equate money with security. Some equate money with achievement or satisfaction.. the more of it they have, the more they have achieved and the more satisfied they are.
Those who do simple attach having money to feeling secured because they may have read, experienced, seen instances of people being left vulnerable or hit vulnerable due to the lack of money.
For example, for me, I dun feel secure when I don't have money because right when I was the poorest, my father owed loansharks so much money he had to flee the country.
I never knew when he was coming back and always lived in fear that one day, someone would hack me into pieces because of his debt.
Thus, there was a strong association that if I had money, my life would be secured and stable.
Perhaps you can think about your own life and find out the links between the feelings of security and having money. When you understand that, you will know why you feel insecure when you do not have money ;)

People feel unsecured when they have no money, but they feel more unsecured when they have too much money.

honestly money makes people happy! no matter what anyone says! but also it can make a person feel like they cant leave the house! considering that they cant buy anything wahts the point of teasing thereselves by putting them selves out in the world and seeing fast foods spots or the mall.... it just puts a person down down down..... it suks

I would think its because money mean security....You need money for everything.....
