Can the level of intelligence be measured by a common test ? can't it be possible that a person may not have interests or thoughts for those particular questions, but have right answers for the other types ?
Can the intelligence of a psychiatrist be measured with that of a cardiologist or mathematician ?

I just received my Master's in Education and we went over this last Fall.
I.Q. tests have pretty much been discarded as valid because they are biased.
How are they biased? The type of questions they ask are geared toward Middle Class Whites - things that middle class whites would know and not necessarily bright people who may have different experiences and culture.
The terms etc. are geared toward whites. We (whites like me), if it were reversed, would not know the terms the Hispanic culture may know, etc.
The diffrences showed up and now it is better understood that a single test cannot possibly measure intelleigence, as it was thought to. Many damaging decisions were made from these tests as far as placement, etc. and this has been recognized by educators and so the I.Q. tests are no longer widely recognized.

well about your first question, yeah a common test can measure the intelligence, not always exact, but approximately. It just measure the intelligence according to the answers given.

dont know about your second question, but yeah psychiatrist, cardiologist and mathematician, are the professions. so obviously these people are so qualified and intelligent, so i think the intelligence of such peoples are of same level. all experts and professional in there own fields.

Intelligence is a highly complex subject and should not be equated with ability. I know personally one young man who is quite unable to read or look after himself but can perform mental arithmetic feats that are quite astounding. I have also met business men who are very rich but when you try to have a conversation with them they appear distinctly "thick" Intelligence tests are constructed to examine each area of mental function, visual, mechanical, arithmetic etc. and give a result which indicates the testee's general mental ability in a numerical form. The formula is Mental Age divided by Physical Age times 100.
This means that if a child has the abilities of a 10 year old and is 10 his I.Q. is 100 (normal) However if he is thinking like a 12 year old but is only 10 his I.Q. is 120 (quite bright) on the other hand he is thinking as an 8 year old his I.Q. will be 80 (not too good). I.Q. is not the be all and end all but it does give a good indication of an individual's ability to cope with intellectual problems.

The intelligence that these tests measure is only the ability to regurgitate information. Consider this, a person can read a hundred books on swimming and know all there is to know about it, but if you throw them into the water they will probably drown. I would rather know a little about a lot of things rather than a lot about a few things. Just something to think about.

IQ tests will only prove the fastness of grasping the question and giving an answer. It does not prove the level of intelligence.

The Q is for quotient, I think. And it measures potential.

The layers of tests include simple problem solving.

So, it won't measure Intelligence, per se, but measure the ability to learn.
