Set up your dialing rules.

Do you live in an area code where you always have to dial the area code?

Do you have to dial "1" or "9" to dial a numnber?

What does the error message say?

one you needs a (isp) server then
go in to the control panel click on modem
set your area code from there them it will
then login to your (isp)server and ur online if you cant get online buy the 56k modem call your (isp)server
and ask for high speed internet a pc router
then your not need to use the 56k modem any more coz ur be onine 24/7 when you put the pc on your internet is always on well thats is you dont put the router off 56k modem is the old way move on up into the year 2006 and go the fast way 1 router for your pc and if it has a built in wireless chip you can put 250+ computes all online from that one router all the other computers needsis wireless adapters or wireless network cards most laptops have a built in wireless
just think 250+ computers all onlne at the same time you can send files from one pc to the next verry fast with windows messenger all you do is log in all the ids on all the computes by windows messenger and you can send files big as 700mb+ from one pc to the next and a file of 700mb was sent from 1 pc 2 the next and it only took 1min 30 sec to send it coz its on ur network well have fun and try to get the verry best out of the net speed use a router its easy setup and u can have computers all online at the same time for family that will stop a fight

I'm not sure but the winsock may have problems. First, scan the computer for viruses. if it doesn't work by then, try resetting your winsock settings. In command prompt, type "netsh winsock reset." then try to dial-up again. If it still doesn't work, check if the modem is installed properly, use the device manger for this. if that doesn't work, i might suggest reinstalling the modem or windows.
