give me some names, yeah? starting from the 1600's
just kinda brain dead after a couple of all nighters

There were no "Americans" until 1789. But, I guess you could count any of the Revolutionary war heros, such as John Adams, Ben Franklin, Paul Revere, John Paul Jones, Everett Hale, Thomas Jefferson and of course George Washington.
