Start several months before the test to improve both your language skills and exam technique. The essay writing needs plenty of practice. Also, get feedback from a tutor who is familiar with the marking system for that particular exam.

There are now dozens of titles that can help you prepare. If your current level is around IELTS 4.5 to 5.5 then try 'IELTS Foundations', if your score is already higher look at 'Insight into IELTS' from CUP.

It all depends on your level of English.If you are convented and have a normal fluency in reading and writing then the exam is very easy....I have given it myself ..prepared for around a week and got 7.5 average.
buy the 3 books of ielts practise by cambrige publication...these are the official books and very good...don't buy any other...i am telling with my experience..its just a waste of money
for the listening round practise with a walkman
