Depends on what happens in the next two years. If Bush attacks Iran or any other unwise move like that, the United States as we know it may be altered for a very long time. Nuclear weapons may be in play. In other words, it well be the big one.
If we can get to 2008 without any more major screw ups, it may be that we will see a new president who will get us back on track with Democratic, pluralistic and peaceful change.
For example, Bush has shattered three decades of bipartisan
foreign Policy with his attack on Iraq and twists of the truth to justify war.
The plain for this war was done by a very small group of people, maybe a dozen, ignoring the military's plans and refusing to take any advice to not attack Iraq or not attack Iraq in a way that would insure causing a major uprising against our troops.
Virtually everything this group predicted, lead by Cheney, Bush and Rumsfeld, failed to materialize since the fall Baghdad and the end of the Saddam government or should I say the Mission Accomplished Speech.
The public has heard so many exaggerations and rosy talk about Iraq that they are turned off at this point and just don't believe Bush anymore.
The turn around can begin by the Democrats taking back the House of Representatives. Good Question.

Read "Fiasco" by Thomas E. Ricks. This is a book that has nailed what happen as Bush and company forced the United States to start an unnecessary war in Iraq. It takes you right inside the Pentagon.

Well, have you got a couple of hours and about ten bazillion words? The world is coming to an end to make a long story short. Have fun and put God on your side. You would not believe how much it will help in the end. He does really care and He cares for you personally.

NOTHING the only reason why you think it's worst today is because of the media. I'm sure life was crazy always. Just look at the bible If people really followed the old books the way it says too many people were stoned to death and I think THAT is really horrible.

Improved technology
Shortage of water, space and shelter
Increase in the pollution
Change in behaviour in the younger generation due to the influence of the entertainment industry
Reduction of culture
