Oh, my gosh I had those earlier this year. They drove me crazy. They're fungus gnats. What you need to do is mix a little bit of dishwashing detergent (not the type for the dishwasher) with water and water your plants with that. It will take several waterings like that for all the gnats to be gone. Don't worry, it won't harm the plants.

Another thing to do to get rid of the critters is take a small piece of yellow paper and attach it to a popsicle stick. Then rub a little vasaline on the paper and stick it into the pot. The gnats are attracted to the yellow paper. They'll get stuck and die. Replace the little papers and eventually, you'll see no more gnats.

Just gnats. If you water too much on your indoor plants, you'll have a problem with them. Keep your plants on the dry side.

queenD, I sure hope you're right, because I have the same problem, too. I've already started the dish soap treatment. It seems to be helping. I'll know better in a few more days.

fungus gnats...... they live in damp, moist soil.....let your plants dry out a bit....and use a detergent based insecticide to kill them.
you really have to stay on top of them.....as they can over run your houseplants...
they lay their eggs in the dirt...and the larvae feed off the roots of your plants, making them weak and prone to other diseases.
