Lost my job back home so I found a good job where my girlfriend lives and moved 2400 miles from home. My daughter is 11 and it breaks my heart daily to be apart from her. I miss her terribly. It's eating me up inside. Should I find work back home and move to my daughters side or stay with my girlfriend and this job? (My ex has custody of her) My girlfriend knows I miss my daughter but knows nothing about me thinking of moving home or how I feel. What to do?

go back. your daughter needs you. she is at the age where you could have a great relationship with her, if you choose to. y'know the saying, out of sight, out of mind? she's gonna forget all about you. i'm not trying to lay a guilt trip on you, but this has happened with me and my 11 year old son. his dad moved 4 hours away and almost never sees him. when weekend visitation comes around, guess who doesn't want to go? he says he doesn't feel like he should visit a stranger. and now the obligatory guilt trip....why is a woman and job more important than your daughter? i understand you have to work, but 2400 miles away? start looking for a job back home and if your g/f doesn't understand, oh well. there are plenty more fish in the sea....grab a fishing pole!!

YOU ANSWERED YOUR OWN QUESTION!

YOU MISS HER TERRIBLY!

Get your butt back home and make up the time with her, and apologize for leaving her --back wherever--while you followed a SKIRT!

Also, it's not your girlfriend's life. Your daughter needs a daddy, really badly, at this tender age. It's probably killing her worse than you will ever know!!!

Hey Kevin,

I went through the same thing with my mom when I was 12. She decided she didn't want to live in L.A. anymore and moved to Montana with her fiance. I'm 24 now and it's still really tough on both sides.

You can email me and I can give you some insight.

P.S. but it did make me who I am today!

Make something of yourself where you are, but include your daughter in your life...everyday! Via phone, e-mail, send her letters/care packages, you should be able to have vacation/holiday time with her where you live (unless you did something so wrong the courts won't allow it); just be a great dad and tell her how much you love her!

stay where you are. this will give your daughter a chance to see a different part of the world. stay in touch with her and let her know that you didn't leave her, and send for her as often as you possibly can. good luck!

think of two things, first, what happens when one day your gf decide that she doesn't want you anymore, and your daughter feel like you don't love her. always choose your daughter, she apart of you, there nothing like growing up without a parent. she will (daughter) always need you.
