I know half of it has to do with them having to pee but what about the other half?

the pressure on the penile system from the bladder being full causes the "morning wood". it is the same thing when men become aroused and the blood flow to that area increases.

Don't question it, just use it for your pleasure. Every day I wake with morning wood means that I am one less day in need of viagra. Then I polish my helmut.

because the blood flow to that part of the body slows down when you sleep, and when you body starts to wakeup the blood flow incresses and you bladder fills up as you sleep.
Your body dosn't stop doing its normal functions just because you are asleep
