You won't get any benefit from removing a correctly functioning EGR valve; they shut off at full throttle anyway. In fact, it's hard to get much of a performance gain from simply removing emissions items on this car. The only one that costs you much of any power if it is working correctly is the air pump. (On the other hand, if a catalytic converter gets plugged, it'll definitely slow you down. Might want to replace those with performance cats.)

One cheap mod is to rig a cold air intake by running some tubing from the TPI intake to a hole in the front bumper. Car Craft had an article a while ago from a guy who did this and picked up a measurable improvement.

If you want to buy some parts, start with a pair of headers and a performance exhaust system. Second change is to ditch that TPI manifold for an aftermarket performance manifold; there's a few out there that bolt right on. TPI's look pretty but flow horribly at high RPM. After that, add a mild performance cam and port the cylinder heads - or if you're intimidated by reworking your own heads, swap on a set of aftermarket aluminum heads.

if you get a programer you wont need to do much work you can reprogram the computer to do what you want make the tranny shift tighter change the rearend gear ratio change the timing the fuel and air mixture and add hp it is cheaper in the long run check out my 360 page for some nice camaros one is pushing 1242 hp

this is a add on to help answer another question no removing the egr valve will not cause it to ping but if you are in a state that does emissions testing it wont pass if you dont have testing take it all off except for the converters this will increase power

HEY ASE guys, is this true? Won't taking off the egr cause it to ping? I knew a guy that did it on a caprice wagon and he had problems. A book said that under light throttle, when the egr is open, the ecm will advance timing up to 20+ degrees. It was on an Lt-1 however, but wouldn't the older small blocks still advance under part throttle?

better tires, braided steel brake lines, better shocks, quicker shifter...

then, I'd focus on removing weight....remove a/c, back seat, replace things with carbon fiber
