Which U.S. states are the farthest north, south, east, and west?
Fascinatingly, Alaska is the state that is farthest north, east, and west while Hawaii is farthest south. The reason that Alaska is farthest east and west is due to the fact that the Aleutian Islands cross the 180° meridian of longitude, placing some of the islands actually in the Eastern Hemisphere and thus degrees east of Greenwich (and the Prime Meridian).

However, for practical (and non-riddle) purposes, the easternmost state is Maine, the northernmost and westernmost is Alaska, and the southernmost is Hawaii.

It's either Texas or Florida for the most soutthern. Alaska for the most northern, Hawaii for the most Western and Maine for the most Eastern, I think, without looking at a map!

I wasn't planning on answering this but since there are so many wrong answers...

West is Alaska... the Aleutians reach further west than Hawaii (damn those longitude lines comming together up north!)

South is Hawaii ... almost the entire state of Hawaii is further south than the Florida Keys

East is, indeed, Maine... the international date line does not intersect the Aleutians, it curves around them

North is Alaska, thank god we all seem to have that right
