It draws in fresh air from the outside and exhausts through the attic. Be sure to open windows to offer enough air flow. Otherwise it will create a strong negative pressure and worse cause gas fired appliances to malfunction. Most work with an on/off switch but you can upgrade to one with a thermostat to have it keep the home a certain temperature.
