I've applied two coats of Kilz 2 primer on my bathroom ceiling. It's white. Do I have to paint over it?

2 coats of primer is overkill, but no, you don't have to paint over it. Would it look better if you did? Absolutely. Primer is designed to seal and help paint adhere to surfaces. It is pourous and flat so in a year or so, your ceiling will look like crap... especially in the bathroom with all the moisture and different temperature changes.

Yes you need to paint over the primer. Primer is mainly user for preparing your wall or sealing for paint. Primer helps in getting a good finish with paint without applying multiple coats. Go ahead and paint the sealing

No you don't have to put a primer on. Two coats of any emulation paint will cover walls unless you buy cheep paint even then another coat will do the job. Same with wood, a coat of undercoat and a top coat will cover any colour. Primer paint is only used on new wood to stop absorption, you then put on the undercoat and the top coat. In metal the primer coat is usually a preservative to stop rust, again you then put on the undercoat and the top coat.

Paints differ in ingredients and in the ratio between the two basic types of ingredients. All paints have a pigment component. This is usually a soft, chalky colorant. The fixative is the glue that holds the paint on the wall.

Primers use stronger fixatives, to grip onto hard to paint surfaces. They lack the hard shell that protects top coats, giving the final coat something good to stick to.

Primer is not a finisher. You need to put on a coat of semi-gloss for a ceiling because primer discolors. It won't take long in a bathroom environment for the primer to discolor.

Hmm... I am confused as to why you found it necessary to buy primer if you didn't want your bathroom ceiling to look nice.

If you bothered to paint two coats of primer you might as well finish the job with a coat of satin or semi-gloss paint.

Just my opinion. Funny, we are painting this weekend too.

Hang in there...

no you dont have too. if you did paint it you would be wasting time because the paint would more than likely be flat which looks like primer. im sure it looks great and primer is better

You don't have to, but it would look better.
