Usually President's are sworn in by the Chief Justice of the United States. But at the first inauguration there was no Chief Justice. So who gave the oath of office to George Washington??

.As there were as yet no Supreme Court Justices, the Oath of Office was administered by Chancellor Robert R. Livingstone - New York's highest ranking judge.
