Fish are drawn to swim with the current just as fish in the ocean and in lakes are, unless they are in spawning season where they swim against it.

the movement of fish has as much to do with food as it has to do with money. A very strong current can carry the fish where ever it's going, or sometimes fish migrate like birds do to find food.

they are not carried with the current. they swim in schools and tend to stay in the same areas of the river. the DNR tags some fish to do research, my hubby caught one once, it traveled about 25 miles from its original spot. he fishes tournaments alot and does alot of pre-fishing to find where the fish are, they move around depending on the water stage also. hope this helps!

Salmon swim downstream after hatching, asd spend most of their lives as salt water , or ocean fish. When the urge to reproduce comes on them, they swim back upstream to spawn. Upon spawning, they die.
Other species stay pretty much close to where they were spawned
