Some e-mail programs have a setting whereby you can "auto-reply" to incoming messages with a message that you create--sort of the e-mail equivalent of an answering machine.

Alternately or additionally, if you use an e-mail signature, you might want to include in it a note to the effect that you'll soon be going on vacation.

The best option is to set up a "Vacation Rule". This option is available in most email programs; web (like YAHOO! or hotmail) or POP3 (like Outlook or Thunderbird).

For YAHOO! mail:

o Open email and go to "MAIL OPTIONS" at top right of page ( a new window will open)

o Select the "Vacation Response" option. This will allow you to specify dates (start + end) to which the rule will apply and enter a message to go to all senders or a special response to go to senders from selected domains.

This way:

--You can set this up ahead of time

--Specify dates that this will be in effect

--Designate who will receive notification that you are away

--Mail will not be bounced unless you box is full

Yahoo has a vacation mail thing. Just go to "options" "email preference"...about the last thing on the list is to "create vacation email to everyone on your list."

Hope that helps.

Just e-mail everyone in your address book the same e-mail notice, telling them all to hold all e-mails to you until further notice.
