Your RAM might be overloaded. You can try some home remedies:
- Suggest you check your startup menu. Removing some programs from startup might help speedup.
- When was the last time you did a home checkup? Disk Cleanup, Scandisk, Defrag, virusscan...
- Do you use a "busy" screensaver? Eats memory. Reset mine to blank.
- Go to Tools, Internet Options.
Clear Cookies, Delete files (offline), Clear History. Reset days to keep pages in history to 0 unless you have reason to keep them for a while.
- Games and videos are mostly graphics. Graphics create large files. You might need more memory.
- Click Start, Run type ipconfig renew (that’s ipconfig space renew) only takes a second.
See if this helps.

why do people download these toolbars that wreak havoc on some PC's?

I'd just delete it from your system and use Google. Unless you run your IM off from the toolbar... Just google the term "Yahoo Toolbar fix"

Well if it told you to download a fix, then it should give a link to said fix.
