My grandpa used algebra on a ship. He used it to calculate how to load and unload it without sinking it. If you load one end first that end gets heavy and the other end sticks up in the air. Or so he told me...
I once managed an office and had to use simple algebra at times to figure out problems that came up with the money.
I never took calculus and have lived many years without it. Quite frankly I think that even an introductory algebra class would be enough for most jobs, but taking a little more advanced course helps to ensure that you understand the basic principles.

Yes specifically for science careers.
Though its not used as its taught in a classroom.
Usually, in a simplified context. Because it's not understood by most people so most employers or businesses aren't going to stand there and watch someone figure out an equation. And it wouldn't mean anything to them anyways.
I would say having a good basic understanding of it ,
Is far more use full. Than trying to be a math whiz or something.
As far as everyday uses, depending on what career you choose. Having a good understanding of it can be a very big asset to you.

Probably nothing you really want to do.
The average person won't use it and if they happen to run into it its in such a basic form that having any real knowledge won't get you far.
For example you probably won't need to use it in the following fields:
art
law
medicine(except in some areas)
waiting tables
modeling

The extensity of these types of maths are very limited. I'm sure they're applied in small doses in odd corners of average everyday life ,but nothing you couldn't live without.
