check out some local coffee shops they have bullitans of their activities. Go there and see if there are any concerts being held-go
Go to a large book shop like Barns and Nobles and check out their groups, they usually have differant ones. Get into a reading and discussion group.
These places give you people to be around and its activities you already enjoy.
Start there and you,ll meet different people who may expand your interests.

Hey, a fellow reenactor! I'm a little different though, I do WWII airsoft, which is quite realistic. But I think we're dealing with someone that is into something with a little less war. :p

I would recommend SCUBA if money isn't an object, although most times it is. The SCUBA crowd where I live is amazing and it really is a relaxed family atmosphere. And I must say, seeing a wreck materialize out of the gloom has to be one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen.

If money is an object, I would recommend going down the photographer route. I have just begun to try this hobby. And I am the one who posted a question about restoring the Ansco Memar. Don't go the digital camera route though, unless you have the money. Try the good old fashioned 35mm, find one dirt cheap, restore it, and thrill at the prospect of taking pictures with what used to be a worthless broken camera.

Meh, just throwing those things out there. Because in case you didn't realize, I'm very much in history, and my hobbies go that route.

There are a ton of hobbies you could get into. Maybe a book club, since you enjoy reading. or take some classes about film making, or criticizing. since you enjoy music, maybe join a fan club of your favorite group. Or volunteer somewhere, the act of helping someone else will help with your depression.
btw, have you been treated for your depression? because you need to treat it like a disease, and a hobby won't just make it go away. look into some counseling/meds if you haven't already. Good Luck!!!!

How about reenacting the American Civil War? Or Rev War or the French and Indian War? Reenacting those involves dressing up in the appropriate period costume and going out and camping with like-minded folks - you gotta be prepared to sleep in a tent on the ground or at least on a cot you can hide during the day - and learn to talk and act like someone who is actually living in the historic period you're portraying. Yes, you get to use real firearms of the type used in the appropriate war, altho you will NEVER load a projectile. Or maybe you'll join an artillery unit instead and learn how to work a cannon! There are full-scale reproduction cannons available and used by many of us - and every now and then someone will bring an authentic, used-in-the-war cannon. You reenact battles fought the way they were then. Let me tell you - wakening to the thunder of forty full-sized cannon that open up at five in the morning at Antietam, feeling the ground jump with each cannon's discharge - now, there's a Civil War moment! Or how about camping with eight hundred other French and Indian War enthusiasts at Fort Ticonderoga here in Upstate New York (there's a Grand Encampment there every year!). Or maybe joining in the annual reenactment of Gettysburg in July? Or maybe you'd prefer to portray a regimental surgeon, like I do?
You can find us by Googling Civil War Reenacting and follow the links - you'll find out how to locate reenacting units (they're like clubs) in your area. Or do the same if you're more interested in the Revolutionary or French and Indian Wars. Yes, there're groups that reenact other wars - choose the one that interests you most.
Or - get into ham radio. Look that up at www.arrl.org

don't golf! Work at a Coffee shop. A little one not like Starbucks where you would be so busy you couldn't chit chat with people. Maybe volunteer at the library? Try something that helps people...work for the Red Cross, volunteer. Homeless shelter also might be a good place to volunteer. I say find something to do that helps people and you'll be rewarded by less depression.

Learn how to play guitar. It is not easy, it takes months of practice to actually sound good, but it is by far the coolest hobby out there. I am self taught, bought a book and a cheap acoustic guitar, and taught myself how to play. You don't need to learn how to read music, just read tabs. 2 years later I am actually really good. Chicks absolutely love it! I also jam with friends who know how to play. You and a friend could learn to play together, that's what I did.

I have been doing yoga...it is something I never thought i would like, but it is very relaxing and helps clear your mind. You don't have to get into all the weird stuff; just take a class a couple times a week. It's good for you mind, body and soul.

what about joining a group that goes to movies and then goes to a coffee house to discuss the movie. If you are interested and can't find a group like this, start one yourself by advertising on bulletin boards or in the papers you find at coffee houses.
