I can totally understand people not liking them, and not wanting to get any themselves, but why do they feel the need to tear apart people who DO like tattoos?
I know my tattoos are going to age, and not look as good as they did when I first got them (thats what retouching is for, btw) and I know that there are certain jobs I probably couldn't get (wouldn't want either) because of them, but so they make me a bad person?
The body IS a temple... but when was the last time you were in a temple that was completely unadorned?

Yup Yup.. there you go with "the body is a temple".. that's MOST of the reasons I have heard for tattoo discouragement.
I don't really understand it all myself, I have a father in-law that is mostly tattooed, and he's a great guy.
I think, for those that have never had a tattoo, they are scared of what it means to be like those who do have tattoos.
Stereotype?.. Sure, I met a lady that has tattoos all over, and shaves her head and bleaches the stubble blonde, she has full head and facial tattoos, piercings, and yet THIS wonderful lady cared about something personal in MY life more than some of my best friends did..
I don't know if the barriers of 'people are people, respect them for who they ARE' can be broken, but I'm hopeful!

i agree I have 5 tattoos and planning on getting at least 2 more! Everyone needs to step back off tattoos people have and start griping about something that really matters. Same as piercings, so what I am a great person and I know I do my job well-if the people don't like the tattoos, Screw them is how I feel!

Well said, not only do I have many tattoos, but I also have been tattooing for 7yrs and people from all different walks of life come in to get them done. I WOULDN'T TRADE MY JOB FOR THE WORLD BTW!! And people always say the same thing to me about them aging and I say "So what, by the time I get that old I really won't care about something as simple as old, wrinkled tattoos trust me"

Because some people are shallow in their thinking and do not know how to look beneath the surface.
Personally, I've wanted a tattoo since I was 18 and I'm still too chicken to get one. I hear it feels like they are ripping your skin off. Is that true? I hope not.

Probably because their momma told them that tattoos are trashy and nobody with tats can get a real job. You know, those kind of boring people that do everything they are told to do. F' them, get all the tats you want.

Many of the religious say things like,"You're going to hell" if or because you have tats! They are small minded, can't think for themselves without a preacher there!

Because in one part of the Bible it says that you shouldnt put markings on yourselves like the pagens do..
pagens meaning really bad other-god worshipping people back in the day.
