The essence of being attracted to another human being is a more complex issue than just gender.
Women who like the "butch" type are attracted to the strength they percieve, or the self assuredness.
You may or may not be aware that a great factor in your attraction to another person is due to orifactal input. (you can tell if you will enjoy someone physically if you like the way they smell. ... not any perfume or cover up, but the natural smell of them. With some folks you have to really work at sensing below or under the cover up smells.)
No man will ever smell like a woman, and no woman will ever smell like a man. they can attempt to imitate the smell of another sex, but the bottom line is they will never succeed entirely.
There is also a difference in how the emotions are experienced and expressed between men and women. I am not saying that men do not feel, or are lacking, but their experience of emotions is far different than that of a woman.
There are exceptions to this of course, as those who feel "trapped" in the wrong body. (those are the ones who usually work towards transexual body modifications.)
As a lesbian, I have upon rare occassion been attracted to a male, but it is far more likely that I would find a woman attractive. Since I have chosen my lifestyle, it is also true that I would not act on an attraction to a male other than to foster a friendship as it would be unkind and unfair for me to lead anyone on. This is called ethics.

As other people have said, preferences vary.
Another factor might be that the "butch" lesbians aren't dressing to attract a mate, but rather are dressing in a way that feels most comfortable to them. They may not personally like wearing dresses or makeup, even if they like it on other women and even if they know their "butch" look makes them less attractive to other lesbians.
But then again, looking "butch" can be its own advantage. It sends out a fairly clear message- "I'm a lesbian." I'm sure a lot of gay women feel more comfortable approaching a woman they KNOW is a lesbian, even if she doesn't meet the traditional standard of feminine beauty. So a lesbian who dresses "butch" will be approached by many more lesbians, since they all know she is safe to talk to and come on to.

Gay men who get breast implants? Hmm, never heard of that. Maybe you're mistaking them for transgender women?
Anyway, there are some women who are attracted to more feminine men (look at Orlando Bloom as Legolas in Lord of the Rings, meow!). There are some men who like women who can fix a truck and go fishing and all that stereotypical masculine stuff. So why can't people with same-sex attractions like the same kinds of variety? Not all women are feminine, not all men are masculine. And everyone's tastes are different. I think it's a wonderful way for the world to work!

The reason all lesbians don't wear dresses and fill that far-gone idea of what a woman is "supposed to be" is because we prefer to be true to ourselves rather than pretend to be what society tells us to be.
As for the person that got breast implants, they're probably part of the transgender community. I'm guessing they're a transvestite and not a transsexual. He has a feminine side of himself that he needs to express for whatever reason, but deep inside he considers himself a man. Sexually a gay male transvestite is looking for a little man-on-man action.
Anymore the gender and sexuality lines are blurring. There are a lot more people that are considering themselves bisexual and lots of people breaking standard gender roles. People come in all varieties of masculinity/feminity and sexual preference.

It's just a preference. Why are all these straight guys running around with gel in their hair and waxing their eyebrows and trimming their nails? Kinda makes them look gay and then you women are all over it so why you goin after a guy that looks like a queer? And I don't think gay men get breast implants...that's transexuals ?

I prefer "butch" women. Preference towards certain physical appearances or attitudes explains it all. I am not attracted to blonds. I LOVE green eyes. I don't like overly thin women. A intelligent sense of humor gets my attention every time. See, it is all in what appeals to a specific person. It kind of like some people hate spinach and others love it. Just personal taste.

Why are people so freakin caught up in why other people like this one or that one? Who CARES? Do I ask you why you like some tall skinny ugly dude with pimples on his nose or some skinny little broad with boobs as big as mount everest? No I don't like butch but who cares!
We are all attracted to whomever we are attracted to for whatever reason. That is what makes us unique! What difference does it make? Love comes from the inside not from whether or not someone wears scruffy jeans or skin tight skirts and halter tops!
I know what turns me on. I don't know why. Do you? Probably not! And do you care? Probably not! You just see what you like and go after it like a dog after a bone!
This question comes up over and over and over!
Why do skinny women like men with beer bellies? Why do skinny little men go after women 3 feet taller than them? Who knows? Who cares? All we need...all we want is love! The rest doesn't matter. It just doesn't matter. Everyone needs and wants to be loved. That is the bottom line. Now go back to your own section and leave us the hell alone.

I'll answer your question like this: I'm a Tomboi, i wear buttondowns, wifebeaters, jeans and wrestling shoes, i love very feminine women. But i don't pretend to be a man because i was born a woman, i keep in touch with my feminine side, but i'm more dominate on my masculine side. I also go to the barber every 2 weeks to get my hair cut, trimmed & lined.

i am gay. call myself a 'chapstick lesbian'. my sister says i'm 'futch'. simply means i own make up and power tools and do not have a clue how to use either.
i do not find butch women attractive, but have many friends that do. i think it's because you have some sort of meaningful relationship with another woman, (meaning without the testosterone), but maybe they still find the manly mannerisms attractive.
i dunno, i like my girls frilly, make-uppy, dress wearing, high heels, lipstick lesbians that are attracted to a recovering tomboy. works for both of us....i am in a wonderful relationship with a beautiful woman and mother of three.
