Seems whan I was a child, the Jerry Lewis Marathon started the day before Labor Day at 6 pm and went on until 6 pm on Labor Day. Anyone remember when they did that? And why they cut back on the hours?
I mean, that was what the marathon was all about. Staying up 24 hours to watch it.

Yes, it was on every channel. At least in West Virginia where we got only 3 channels. Chanel 3, 8, and 13. And every channel had it, so there was nothin to watch but that.

Oh my goodness! I was jus telling my kids this. We used to watch it non stop. I was thinking it was on all the local channels so if you didn't have cable you have to watch it.

Yes I remember that also. Jerry would have kids everywhere going around collecting money and delivering to their local TV station and area business would come by and donate money on TV for Jerry's kids. Jerry's marathon would be announcing the grand totals from around the country. The local TV stations would have a bunch of phones with people answering taking pledges and of course there was the local total board on TV for our area. They would be cutting back and forth between Jerry's show and the local show.

I love Jerry Lewis but after catching a few minuutes of the telethon this time around I gotta say I think it may be a blessing to everyone involved (Jerry and viewers alike) that it has been shortened. That ol' funny man just ain't what he used to be.

I remember when it was on til 6pm on Labor day.
I also remember back in the 70's when Jerry smoked, he'd have a big bowl filled with cigarettes & actually smoke on tv during the show.
Ahh. Those were the days.
Jerrys health doesn't allow the long hours, so they shortened it

No, through fact the MDA telethon is a countrywide exertions day employer with Jerry Lewis on the helm. it rather is genuinely not the comparable returned. if reality be told it does not marvel me if it stops airing through loss of pastime.

Yeah I remember that too, not that I stayed around watching it just that it was on! BIG business most likely found another way to make money, or the same old way, during those hours is probablly why they cut the hours!
