do not nail, use a "Medium Crown" stapler, can be purchased or rented at home centers, lumber yards, or tool crib. The staples should be 1 1/2" x 7/16" crown. Each staple has two legs, they are glue coated for better holding power. The leg of the staple is a small diameter, and will not split the cedar when penetrating. Good Luck

I took of my cedar shake roof and replaced it with shingles. They use staples to fasten the shakes to the roof. That makes much more sense than a nail gun. I would get a staple gun instead.

Best not to use a nail gun these shingles are a little fragile.
