I am not sure if you mean at a restaurant or just in your house. But if you mean in a restaurant, then dress up big time. Wear what I call "Church clothes" And usually hostesses wear black. Then just smile and greet everyone, and make sure you ask where they would like to sit. Listen to what they want. The best way to make people happy is to listen and try to accomadate their requests.

If you are talking about a dinner party type thing, then the most important thing is food. Have lots of good food, and easy party food. Nothing messy, and nothing that requires a lot of toppings. Stuff like crackers, chips, veggies, fruit, and other munchies. For the main course, pick stuff that everyone will like. If people have good food, they will be more apt to talk with eachother and to you, making it easy for you to answer questions. Also be sure to have several games set up. Have cards out, or yard games, or something for people to be doing. Games are great conversation starters. It takes the pressure off of you as an individual and lets you focus on the game while breaking the ice.

Have everything ready for the party the day before, except those things that have to be made just prior to being eaten. Have your table set, drinks in cooler, house cleaned. That way you can enjoy your guests. If you and any of your guests are shy, try playing ice-breaking games.
