The charge of electrons as well as protons and neutrons are determined by the lepton or quark arrangments that make them up. An electron is a charged lepton whereas neutrons and protons are made up of quarks.

electrons dont "get charge" they are a charge.

They don't have to get, they HAVE a charge (negative)
