I think Miss Manners would be furious at this one too, I do believe it stemmed from the end of Summer, and the beginning of a new Season...(Fall, Autumn) and the colors are more orange, tan, you know, the Fall colors.
One of my favorite colors is White, and I wear White all year round, I do try to wear the cooler colors with it though, just to stay Fashionably correct.

A bit of old time traditional "rules" on what to wear and when. dats back to the days of women wearing gloves, and men wearing a coat and tie to dinner.

my theory is a long time ago when whites had to be boiled it was easier to do outside.
now we have bleach & washer-dryers and drycleaners, so you can do whatever you like. according to some; others say stick with the no white after labor day or be gauche.

its a silly thing. do it anyway. (used to be that white clothes were linen or cotton, not the most warm materials in the world. so ppl wore other stuff. so to wear linen in december would be asking for the chills. i think that's why they have the rule.)

White represents people with desk jobs or jobs in offices. Labor day is for people that do physical work.

It is like Friday the 13th, don't walk under a ladder, or don't pass a black cat. It is supposed to be a superstitious, but I really don't think anyone cares.
