sigma is the root mean square average of deviation from the mean in a distribution. The first step is to calculate the mean, which is the sum of all values (samples) divided by the number of values. Then for each value, subtract it from the mean and square it. Add all the squares and divide by the number of samples. Then take the square root of the resut.
