My favorite Authors are , Frank Herbert (Dune series), Piers Anthony (Xanth, The Incarnations of Immortality, The Adept series) , Alan Dean Foster (Spellsinger) , Steven King, Timothy Zahn (Star Wars) and Andre Norton (The Witch World Books). And T.c. Boyle (Amerika)

J.R.R. Tolkien- the creator of fantasy as we know it. The world owes a debt to him that can never be repaid!
Juliet Marillier- She writes WONDERFUL semi-historical (you might call it mythic/ancestral) fantasy novels such as "Daughter of the Forest" and "Wolfskin"!
George R.R. Martin- His ongoing creation of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series is one of the greatest achievements of modern fantasy- far, FAR ahead of Robert Jordan and his "Wheel of Time" series.
Anne Bishop writes a mean "dark" fantasy. Her "The Black Jewels" trilogy is truly mesmerizing. (However, some of her newer, non-dark stuff... not so good)
Jane Lindskold- her continuing "Wolf" series about the adventures of Firekeeper, a girl who was raised by intelligent, language-using wolves, is completely engrossing! (Her other novels are awesome too!)
