I have only read The Source and Chesapeake - but I found these books to be facinating historical fiction. What of his other books would you recommend?

Iberia and the Covenant.
These are particularly good of you are a history buff; one deals with Spain & Portugal and the other with South Africa. Havng lived in Southern Africa, I can say that Covenant is extremely knowledgeable presented as great enterainment. A great one liner from Iberia is Michener's statement that Portugal is the only county where a man's mistress is uglier than his wife.

I have read at least one of his books Tales of the South Pacific try that book it's not really a historical fiction book since the theme has a World War 2 setting to it. It doesn't deal with any battles or anything like that. Just set on an island in the South Pacific. Which is home to some plantation owners, a military hospital and is a drop off zone for soldier going into battle and a lay hangout for sailors. If you want to see the movie based on this book the one to watch would be South Pacific it is a musical by Oscar and Hammerstein a famous song writing team from the middle of the last century. Try to get the first movie vision of South Pacific it is better than the TV version remake done about 5 years ago.

I have only read the two you have...The Source...and Chesapeake. However, I do love his work. If you enjoy Michener you should definitely read Edward Rutherfurd. I have read all of his works and they are great. My favorite would have to be Sarum or London.

Hawaii is good. The only problem I have with Michener is his books start out great and then they fizzle out about halfway through.
