I think it's just a matter of the right woman coming along. The two most likely female candidates these days are Condoleeza Rice, who's seen mostly as a voicepiece for a very questionable at best administration, and Hillary Clinton...who's sold out most of the democratic parties points to appeal to a conservative republican base she'll never have and proven herself to be much less moral and much more politically expedient than I think any president should be. I think when the US finally gets the right female president, it'll be a great day...but I don't see a good candidate right now.

We just still have a lot of the same biases against women being in charge that we have had for a long time. They're getting better and better, so, hopefully we'll get to have a woman president soon. I guess the same could be said for why we haven't had a minority president yet.
I think many people would be shocked to know all of the countries that have had a female leader, when America still hasn't.

I've got nothing wrong with having a woman president, so long as she's the president first, before she's the "first woman president". However, several candidates (the most prominent) would attempt to make us a feminist country, and go about correcting the percieved "sexism" that is "gripping the country". And when she does, men will be in the same position women were 30-40 years ago, but we won't be able to complain, since we've been the dominant for so long.

What? A woman in the boys club house? They can't even give women equal pay, equal position. Don't you know that America nor most of the globe is no longer matriarchal? The middle east, rome, the church, therefore europe and lastly America is patriarchal? Why do you think everything is so screwed up? Why do you think women are kept hidden in the middle east, women burned at the stake in the dark ages, to keep you quiet! to kill the goddess. Yet don't men know that the goddess is the femine expression of the creator? Who is both male and female and androgenous at the same time?

I think primarily because there are very many women in politics. It's generally a male field. And obviously there are women in politics, but I think the highest ranking political office has always been male, as a reflection of the sex of more of the politicians. I really don't think there's any kind of conspiracy at play.
There are many professional areas that are dominated by men, and many that are dominated by women. Construction for example is primarly done by men (and some women). Interior design and fashion design are done primarily by women or gay men (and a some straight men). Yet no one cries bloody murder over this. Why is that? Cause people only care about the most important position, which is our country's leader.
But I don't think it would be interesting, but I don't think it would be quite as different as you would imagine. You might actually be surprised at how similiar she would be to her male counterparts.

Your choice of the word "afraid" amuses me.
Have you seen an American woman RUN for president yet? Seems to me you have to find someone with some brains AND ovaries ... who is interested in the job ... before you can judge all the American people of being afraid of having a woman president.
By the way, for the amount of pressure and responsibility ... they really don't make a lot of money. Most presidents make their money in other ways ... not by being president.

I don't think we are afraid at all. If the right candidate steps foward her gender isn't the issue. Will she represent the country and fulfill her responsibilites is what's important. Hillary might run, but she is to polarizing. Condi Rice maybe, but since she's associated with Bush...I doubt she would have a chance. Hmm got any ideas on who a good women in the US would be for prez?

For all that America pretends to be equal and free, it's still run by a bunch of ego-filled, grey-haired old men in suits, whose little peckers would probably shrivel up and die if a woman were to become president.

***It starts at the local level. Vote for people not in the democratic/republican parties.
The Old White Men who have been running this country for as long as they have, have not been challenged. We have not risen up to make a difference. jeez, we only have two real parties. we need to start voting for other parties and show that we are not the apathetic robots these politicians take us for. we have our own minds and need to refuse to be sheep.
