assuming you want it to last forever make sure it is acid and lignin free. some more popular manufacturers of scrapbook papers are francis mayer, ek success, k&co, me & my big ideas, memories, basic grey... there are a lot!
google scrapbook paper, you'll get a lot of results

dealers i like (that you don't have to own a business to get) are:
all my memories
two peas in a bucket
... i'm at a loss right now - i'm not buying because i'm going digital

i would deffinately suggest going out and buying an issue of simple scrapbooks - one of the best magazines out there for scrapping - and looking in the back for more sites as well as using the magazine for ideas

any paper is good paper.... let your imagination run free!! which ever paper appeals to you the most, is the best paper.
make sure it is archival safe (acid and lignin free), meaning that it will last through the years. almost all papers sold for scrapbooking will be archival safe already, so i wouldn't really worry about it. Have fun!!!
