how can i i copy a shortcut on my desktop?

Right click on an empty are of your desktop.
Select "new" then "shortcut".
Browse to c:\program files\Windows Media Player and click on wmplayer.exe.
Select "Next >".
Give your shortcut a name like "WMP".
Click Finish.

your main window should be in start>>all programs>>entertainment>>media player. Once you find that , right click the icon and "add a shortcut" then you can drag the shortcut to your desktop
